Alleged Attack on Michigan Teen by Serial Offender
A 14-year-old girl was reportedly confronted by a serial sex offender while walking home from school on a quiet street in Kentwood, Michigan. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on May 12 when John Moore, 29, allegedly attempted to abduct her using a black SUV.
Video footage shows Moore driving through the neighborhood before he jumped out to approach the girl. In the encounter, he allegedly tried to restrain her. However, the girl fought back and managed to escape to safety as he rushed back to his vehicle.
She stated that during the incident, Moore told her, “I get it,” as he grabbed her. This alarming detail was noted in court documents.
As she struggled, the girl reportedly injured her attacker. Following Moore’s arrest, police connected him to a second assault that took place the next day at around 2 p.m. This incident involved a 66-year-old woman who was gardening outside her home when he made unwanted advances and assaulted her before fleeing.
Law enforcement officials quickly linked the two attacks based on their similarities. Consequently, Moore has been charged with assault, battery, and false imprisonment, currently held at the Kent County Correctional Facility on a $140,000 bond. He also has two probation violations documented by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to these incidents, Moore had received probation for filming an upskirt video of a woman in September 2023 and for another assault at a local grocery store about a year and a half earlier. Reports indicated that he had a history of voyeurism, including instances of secretly recording women.
In the latter incident, he was accused of approaching a woman, claiming she had a spider on her back, before inappropriately grabbing her. Multiple women reported being assaulted in that event.
During court proceedings, Moore’s public defender described him as a “kind” and “gentle” individual, suggesting that he was not a reflection of his actions. She argued that he was remorseful, potentially due to substance abuse issues.
Last August, Moore received a six-month prison sentence, which was suspended for three years, along with a requirement to register as a sex offender.
