Jill Biden Reflects on Debate Incident, Sparking Controversy
Former First Lady Jill Biden has stirred conversation online after her recent remarks to CBS regarding her husband, then-President Joe Biden’s, debate performance against Donald Trump in 2024. She expressed her alarm during that debate, stating, “I wasn’t scared, I was,” and added, “I’ve never seen Joe like that before or since. I don’t know what happened. I looked at it and thought, ‘Oh my god, he’s having a seizure.’ It was scary to death.”
Her reflections come amidst ongoing discussions about that particular debate. Critics from the Republican camp claimed it indicated that the then-81-year-old president was not fit to serve as commander in chief. This debate night notably propelled Biden’s reelection campaign into a downward spiral.
During that debate, Joe Biden was criticized for mumbling questions under his breath and losing his train of thought while claiming his administration had “beaten Medicaid.” Democrats countered that his performance was an anomaly and didn’t represent his overall abilities.
While Jill Biden’s remarks seem to support this notion nearly two years later, Axios reporter Alex Thompson raised questions about her description. He indicated that aides had remarked on Biden’s lapses both before and after the debate, making it tough to predict or conceal such moments.
Thompson also pointed out that Jill Biden participated in several campaign events following that debate, including a rally the very next day. Conservative commentator Kevin Dalton noted that her initial reactions seemed inconsistent with the panic she later described, recalling how she praised Joe’s performance right after the debate.
Columnist Miranda Devine challenged Jill Biden’s narrative, arguing that if she had truly believed her husband was in medical distress, she should have insisted on immediate medical attention rather than taking him to a casual venue like Waffle House and treating him like a child. She expressed disbelief at the attempt to rewrite those moments.
Additional voices, like Outkick founder Clay Travis, critiqued Jill Biden for what they perceived as a disconnect between her claimed fears and her actions after the debate. Fox News host Jimmy Failla added sarcastically that if Jill were genuinely concerned about a potential stroke, her subsequent behavior appeared hypocritical.
Senator Mike Lee shared his astonishment at the president’s performance, recalling Jill Biden’s worries about her husband possibly being drugged during the debate. Meanwhile, conservative media figure Benny Johnson asserted that her public comments suggested an awareness of Joe Biden’s condition that was not transparent to the public, framing it as a potential case of elder abuse and a cover-up.
