A luxury cruise ship navigated rough Pacific waters to aid injured sailors stranded on a disabled vessel, according to various reports.
This incident took place on May 26 as the Silver Whisper, operated by Silversea Cruises (owned by Royal Caribbean Group), was en route to Vancouver.
While completing a lengthy 24-night journey from Papeete, Tahiti, the Silver Whisper received a distress signal regarding an injured crew member on another ship.
Given the distance from Hawaii and the U.S. mainland, an air rescue was deemed impractical, prompting the Silver Whisper to change course to assist.
Passengers onboard shared their experiences on Facebook during the multi-hour operation.
One official noted that the ship rescued a man whose boat had lost power and communications due to high winds and turbulent seas.
A Facebook user mentioned, “We were the closest ship to him. It took 7 hours to reach his location without precise coordinates.” They expressed relief at the outcome, stating, “She has a broken shoulder but is alive and well.”
“Many of us might have missed our flights because of the delays, but we helped save lives, even if one crew member was injured,” a passenger reflected.
Another user commented on the unpredictable nature of the trip to Vancouver, noting, “A mayday call came in, and our vessel was directed to take part in the rescue.”
While delays affected others, the sense of duty to assist was paramount; the official remarked on the importance of the rescue despite the challenges faced.
At one point, conditions worsened, and stabilizers failed, leading passengers to return to their cabins for safety. Yet, they still found the experience memorable.
The Silver Whisper, described on its website as among the most technologically advanced ships at sea, also offers a wealth of amenities, from luxurious wellness treatments to upscale shopping and entertainment.
Fox News Digital has sought further comments from Royal Caribbean regarding the incident.
