Towns Remembers Linsanity and Knicks Fandom
Karl-Anthony Towns was an enthusiastic supporter during the Linsanity phenomenon in the NBA.
Recently, he reflected on his childhood as a Knicks fan and shared his admiration for Jeremy Lin.
“I want to give a big shout out to Jeremy Lin, because he really turned me into a Knicks fan and took me to Modell’s,” Towns expressed. “Searching for his jersey was quite the adventure. I really love Jeremy Lin. He’s always been one of my favorite Knicks, one of my all-time favorite players. His impact made me so passionate about the Knicks. It’s wild to think that I’m here now, talking to you as a Knicks player. It was a bit surreal when he mentioned me on social media the other day. The love I have for him and what he’s done for my Knicks fandom is unparalleled.”
Towns was in high school at the height of Linsanity.
He also elaborated on why he preferred the Knicks to the Nets. “My mom recognized the significance of Madison Square Garden when we moved here,” he noted. “Growing up in Jersey made it easy to get New Jersey Nets tickets and see players like Kenyon Martin, Vince Carter, and Jason Kidd. However, my family has always had deep respect and love for the Knicks, and my dad had connections to the team, so it was really inevitable that I’d become a Knicks fan.”
Meanwhile, OG Anunoby, who missed the series due to an injury, has Finals experience from his time with the Raptors in 2019. “We were a very close-knit team, filled with talent,” he recalled. “I learned so much from my incredible teammates. Winning the championship was an amazing experience,” he said.
He shared something he learned during that time, “I was young then, so I didn’t fully grasp how challenging it would be to return to that level.”
