California’s Democratic candidate for governor, Tom Steyer, is advocating for the inclusion of transgender women in female sports and expressed his pride in a transgender athlete during a recent conversation.

Steyer’s remarks came during a video meeting with AB Hernandez, a teenage athlete who recently claimed a state title, which has ignited protests among parents and female competitors, according to Breitbart News.

In the video, Hernandez, dressed in a dress and holding a handbag, shared her happiness about being open regarding her support for transgender rights.

“I think a lot of people show support, maybe like 90%, but they hesitate on the crucial 10%,” Steyer commented, emphasizing his team’s full backing. Hernandez mentioned feeling “outed” on multiple occasions, leading her to seek better protection.

Steyer agreed, noting that a governor’s duty includes safeguarding the public and addressing negativity in the world. “I take that very seriously for you…and I truly admire what you’re accomplishing. I’m proud of your success,” he added.

Hernandez expressed concern about her “personal information” being compromised, while Jennifer Sey, head of XX-XY Athletics, pointed out that Hernandez’s details were easily accessible online.

“The results from last year’s state tournament are on his school’s CIF website. That’s not identity theft,” Sey stated.

Steyer has publicly endorsed allowing transgender women to join girls’ high school sports teams, despite ongoing debates about safety and equity for female athletes, according to Breitbart News.

He acknowledged worries over the inclusion of biological males in women’s sports but seemed to downplay their impact. “Having a fair shot in sports is important, but it doesn’t outweigh standing up for those who are truly vulnerable,” Steyer remarked.

Despite concerns raised by former President Donald Trump regarding transgender athletes in California, Hernandez was allowed to compete and achieve victory in significant track and field events.

Recently, it was reported that Trump was contemplating withholding substantial federal funds from California due to its failure to adhere to an executive order intended to prevent men from participating in women’s sports.

In terms of the state gubernatorial race, polling indicates a tie between Steyer and Republican Steve Hilton leading up to the primary.

“In a poll taken from May 26th to May 28th, both candidates secured an approval rating of 25%,” the media coverage revealed.

Fox News journalist Jackson Thompson prompted Hilton to discuss his views on the transgender athlete issue, to which Hilton criticized the 2013 law allowing biological males in women’s sports as “ridiculous.”

“We have to put an end to this,” he asserted, sharing his plans to protect women’s sports as governor.

“This extreme gender ideology introduced into politics by the Democratic Party doesn’t reflect the beliefs of most Californians,” Hilton added.
