Poll Reveals Voters’ Concerns About the State of America

According to a recent national poll released by Fox News, a significant majority of voters express negative sentiments about the current state of the U.S. When asked to describe America in a few words, about two-thirds of participants chose terms like “failure,” “division,” “struggle,” and “corruption.” Interestingly, this includes nearly double the number of Democrats as compared to Republicans.

Despite these negative perceptions, the survey also showed that voters largely agree on several foundational principles of the country. A striking 83% emphasized the importance of American democratic ideals, while 85% highlighted national unity and shared values as crucial. Additionally, around 77% recognized the significance of multiculturalism and diversity in the nation. However, opinions on multiculturalism did diverge somewhat along party lines—88% of Democrats see it as a vital characteristic, while only 67% of Republicans agree, resulting in a notable 21-point gap.

Conducted by Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) from May 15 to 18, the poll surveyed a random sample of 1,002 registered voters from a national voter file. Interviews were conducted either via live conversations on landlines (109 respondents) and cell phones (635), or through online surveys after text invitations (258 respondents). The results have a margin of error of ±3 percentage points based on the full sample, although errors may vary within subgroups. Factors such as question wording and order can also impact findings. To ensure demographic representation, weights were applied according to age, race, education, and regional variables, drawing on sources like the latest American Community Survey and Fox News Voter Analysis.
