Sanders supports troubled Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner

Democrats are trapped by the radical left they chose not to challenge.

Scandal-Plagued Candidate Remains Supported by Senate Democrats

The Senate’s vocal supporter, Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate from Maine, is seemingly unfazed by ongoing controversies. Despite a series of scandals, even Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders continues to back him. It’s a curious choice, especially since Platner’s past is becoming hard to ignore.

Once seen as a promising candidate, Platner’s image took a hit recently when tattoos featuring Nazi symbols on his body came to light. Sanders attributes the resurfacing of such baggage to Platner’s staunch opposition to the interests of billionaires.

“What we have now is a situation where billionaires have already committed to spending $90 million in a small state like Maine,” noted Sanders, emphasizing the financial stakes involved. “Believe me, that’s a lot of money. They don’t want him in.” He argues that Platner’s willingness to challenge powerful moneyed interests makes him a target.

Platner’s troubles escalated when a video surfaced showing him with a Totenkopf tattoo, a symbol associated with the Nazi military. This, combined with old posts resurfacing from Reddit, where he discussed various controversial topics, has complicated his campaign. There’s also the issue of a sexting scandal and a profile on a platform known for controversial interactions.

Despite these challenges, Sanders and other supporters remain focused on defeating incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine). “I think what we need to do as a country is focus on the important issues facing working families, 60% of whom are living paycheck to paycheck,” stated Sanders, while offering support to Platner in navigating personal struggles.

Collins, who is gearing up for a tough race, remarked on Platner’s issues saying, “I have nothing to add. Every day, new revelations are made about Graham Platner that reflect who he is as a person.” Yet, supporters of Platner are holding onto hope for his candidacy.

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), an early backer of Platner, highlighted the candidate’s life experiences, suggesting they resonate with voters. “It’s up to the voters of Maine to decide what happens next, but we know at this point that this guy still has a chance to win the election,” he added optimistically.

As Platner prepares to meet with Democratic lawmakers in Washington, the ongoing support despite his controversies has raised eyebrows among Republicans. They see a strategic opportunity to capitalize on his troubled campaign. “I mean, this guy has a hell of a job,” remarked Senator Eric Schmidt (R-Missouri). “But I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for the Democrats to fix the obvious on this.”
