Bernie Sanders Stands by Graham Platner Amid Controversy

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has made it clear that he won’t withdraw support for Maine’s Senator Graham Platner, even as reports surface about Platner sending inappropriate texts to several women after tying the knot two years ago.

Platner’s campaign confirmed to Politico that documents related to this matter were shared after the Wall Street Journal disclosed that his wife, Amy Gartner, informed campaign workers about the texts. Gartner found these messages a few months after their wedding in 2024.

“Sixty percent of the population is living paycheck to paycheck. People can’t afford health care, groceries, or even gas. I think the wealthy are gearing up to spend around $90 million in Maine to undermine Graham Platner,” Sanders remarked to a reporter. “Instead of dwelling on his marriage, perhaps we should focus on the critical issues confronting working-class Americans right now.”

When asked if he was reconsidering his backing, Sanders simply replied, “Certainly not.”

“And, as for his wife Amy, who I’ve met, it’s evident they care for each other. But, maybe we ought to prioritize the problems that impact the American populace and the people of Maine instead of concentrating on Graham Platner’s marital challenges,” Sanders added.

On another note, Sanders reaffirmed his support when questioned by reporters, stating, “Of course,” and adding, “why not?”

Amy Gartner Defends Her Husband

Gartner spoke out on Saturday to protect her husband’s Senate bid. “It’s truly angering, disappointing, and embarrassing that some media outlets and individuals choose to ignore the significant issues Mr. Graham is focusing on, like health care and education, and instead amplify gossip,” she said in a video posted online.

“Being newly married can be tough. Dealing with infertility and campaigning for the Senate simultaneously complicates things even further,” Gartner expressed.
