Trump introduces plan for walking path at Lincoln Memorial

President Donald Trump has announced a plan to construct a pedestrian bridge that will link the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River. This initiative, referred to as “The Promenade,” is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to revamp the National Mall’s layout during its second term.

“We’re going to call this the Promenade,” Trump stated during a press conference in the Oval Office. “They want to name it the Trump Promenade, and I’m not sure about that. But it’s going to be stunning. A beautiful project, extending from the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River.”

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum mentioned that this proposed boardwalk bridge would lead visitors “all the way to the water’s edge,” bridging the ongoing divide created by the highway that separates the landmark from the river. He expressed that this project fulfills a long-standing component of the early 20th-century planning efforts aimed at creating a grand entrance to the monument.

“Currently, it’s inaccessible to pedestrians. Tourists from around the globe come here and might not even realize that a beautiful Potomac River is just a short distance away,” Burgum remarked.

This announcement is part of a larger initiative from the administration aimed at transforming the capital in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Other ongoing projects include restoring historic fountains, filling in the recently renovated reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial, and the construction of a large Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) arena on the South Lawn in preparation for an upcoming event.
