Video of a military veteran and airport worker facing difficulties while walking gains significant donations

Following a viral video of an airport worker struggling to walk at a California airport, there’s been a huge response from the public. Over $135,000 has been raised to assist the man’s medical and daily living costs. The video, filmed at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport, has gained nearly 6 million views on TikTok, prompting many to express their support online.

Passenger Rashinda Thackeray captured the moment, explaining that it was hard to watch the worker, identified later as James Blair, in visible pain while trying to fulfill his job duties. “Seeing him struggle was really heartbreaking,” she shared, adding that she believes there must be a way to support him as he considers retirement.

James Blair, a U.S. Navy veteran, spent a decade as an aircraft mechanic before transitioning to refueling aircraft. He noted that years of strenuous work had taken a significant toll on his body, especially on his knees. Despite the chronic pain, he continued his job while also caring for his 90-year-old mother, who was receiving hospice care.

When the video was posted, people swiftly began donating to help cover Blair’s expenses. The initiative has already surpassed its initial goal of $200,000. Reflecting on the outpouring of support, Blair expressed surprise: “When I saw the donations coming in, I couldn’t help but laugh. After two decades in this role, I was shocked anyone cared.” He mentioned that the contributions have been life-changing and would ease some of the financial burdens he faces due to his medical needs.

The comment section of the video became a place of encouragement, filled with affirmations from both acquaintances and strangers who had been moved by his story. Many described him as a diligent worker who selflessly prioritized others’ needs for years. One user who has worked beside him for five years shared that talking with Blair is a highlight of their shifts.

Supporters pointed out the deserving nature of Blair’s situation, noting his military service and extensive work history at the airport. He has become a symbol of how we can show respect for our veterans, with several comments highlighting that they “deserve so much better.” A collective sentiment emerged from the community: “This demonstrates how we honor our veterans.”
