Lawmaker Suggests Changing Tollway Name to Tribute President Trump

A Texas representative is pushing to rename a toll road in honor of President Donald Trump, emphasizing the positive impact of his administration’s policies.

This initiative by state Rep. Jared Patterson (R-Frisco) follows Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-Texas) retreat from his proposal to rename a state highway as the Dallas Express.

Patterson expressed his views on social media, stating, “During the U.S. Senate primary, we heard a lot about naming highways after President Trump from the losing candidate. It seems that promise only applies when it’s politically convenient, and clearly, that’s not a priority anymore.”

He added:

“My support for President Trump and the Republican Party isn’t just linked to campaign timeframes. That’s why I plan to propose a resolution in the next Congress to request the North Texas Tollway Authority rename the Dallas North Tollway the ‘Donald J. Trump Tollway.’

The stretch from Dallas through Collin and Denton counties exemplifies the success of Trump’s pro-growth, pro-business, and pro-family policies. This tollway runs right through North Texas’s thriving hub, connecting communities that have prospered due to Trump’s initiatives like tax cuts and energy leadership.

Renaming this significant roadway after President Trump would serve as a lasting acknowledgment of his leadership, which has driven growth in the region. I’m determined to lead this effort.”

Earlier in May, Cornyn had mentioned his initiative to rename Route 287 as Interstate 47 to honor Trump, noting that it would significantly reduce travel costs while honoring a pivotal president.

However, after losing to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican primary runoff, Cornyn stated that the proposal “may not be a priority for me for the next seven months.”

Although Cornyn claimed to have supported Trump during his presidency, he did not receive Trump’s endorsement. Paxton, who did receive Trump’s backing, won decisively against Cornyn and is set to compete against Democrat James Talarico in the upcoming election.

Trump referred to Paxton as an “America First patriot” and acknowledged Cornyn as a “good person” who had worked well with him but noted that Cornyn had not stood by him during challenging times.
