Steak ‘n Shake Stands by Political Choice in Iowa Primary
Steak ‘n Shake has reaffirmed its decision to support Republican candidate Zach Rahn in the Iowa gubernatorial primary. In May, the chain made its endorsement, which came to fruition as Rahn narrowly defeated his opponent, Randy Feenstra, a candidate backed by former President Trump, in the primary held on Tuesday. The victory margin was less than one point.
Rahn celebrated the win on social media, likening the restaurant’s quality products—like 100% grass-fed steakburgers and beef tallow fries—to their aim in political predictions. He stated, “We like to get it right. MAHA.”
Now, Rahn is preparing for a matchup against Iowa State Auditor Rob Sund from the Democratic Party, as the focus shifts toward the November elections.
In another social media post, Steak ‘n Shake congratulated Rahn, noting that voters had shown strong support for the MAHA candidates, asserting their unbeaten status in political endorsements.
According to Rahn, he positioned himself as the sole candidate supporting MAHA. He has publicly voiced opposition to hiring foreign contract workers for state universities, emphasizing that Iowans can take on these jobs. “I reject the idea that our people won’t do these jobs,” he said during his campaign.
While some may see the stance on visa workers as just one element of his campaign, it played a significant role in his slim victory, noted Chris Chmielenski, president of the Immigrant Responsibility Project Action. He remarked that any win by an underdog against an establishment figure is indicative of broader significance beyond the vote margin.
Rahn’s campaign received backing from MAHA PAC, whose chairman, Tony Lyons, stated that the recent election highlights the discrepancy between being pro-pesticide and pro-farmer. Rahn made it clear that moving away from toxic chemicals was a central theme of his campaign.
Steak ‘n Shake’s involvement aligns with the Make America Healthy Again movement, which promotes initiatives like 100% grass-fed beef and seed oil-free fast food options. The company has committed to enhancing the quality of fast food, emphasizing healthier choices.
