Sen. Moreno: 'Shameful' Congress Fails to Approve SAVE America Act

Moreno Criticizes Congress for Election Standards

Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) expressed his embarrassment over Congress’s inability to pass the SAVE America Act, especially in light of how effectively Colombia conducts its elections.

While speaking with Matthew Boyle on Breitbart News Saturday, Moreno, who was observing local elections in Colombia, highlighted the country’s strict voting regulations. Notably, Colombia does not permit mail-in ballots and demands proof of citizenship along with voter identification.

“From a Congressional perspective, it’s kind of embarrassing that we can’t even pass the Act. There is no mail-in voting. You must provide proof of citizenship to vote. So, it’s not just about having a voter ID; it’s absolutely necessary to prove your citizenship. If you don’t have the required documents, you can’t even enter the voting area,” he stated.

He went on to describe the election process, emphasizing that all ballots are paper and counted by hand, with results released just an hour and a half after the polls close. Election observers ensure integrity, and a judge is present to address any disputes.

Moreno noted that around 750,000 election observers and volunteers were involved, with roughly 13,000 coming from abroad.

“This is an incredibly accurate way to conduct elections. My bottom line is that I felt embarrassed for the United States and, as a senator, even more humiliated knowing that Congress wouldn’t allow citizens to show proof of identification to vote in American elections,” he said.

He also remarked on the ongoing situation in California, where ballots were still being counted, calling it “absolutely insane.”

Moreno’s remarks coincided with President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Abelardo de la Espriela, a conservative candidate in Colombia’s presidential election. In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his support for Espriela, citing his achievements and commitment to the Colombian people.

Espriela will compete against far-left candidate Senator Iván Cepeda in a runoff scheduled for June 21.
