Danhausen’s Influence on the Knicks and Other Sports Curses

WWE star Danhausen has garnered some attention lately, particularly with his playful narrative about “breaking the curse” surrounding the New York Knicks. This storyline, while perhaps underrated, has coincided with the team’s exciting push to the NBA Finals. Interestingly, he isn’t just leaving it at that; he’s made sure that Mayor Zoran Mamdani gets the recognition whenever the team comes out on top.

After the Knicks’ recent 2-0 win against the San Antonio Spurs, Danhausen approached Mayor Mamdani with a quirky list of demands. Among his requests, he humorously suggested the creation of a giant Danhausen balloon for parades, one that would drop pizza and hot dogs to New Yorkers. He cheekily remarked on social media, “Yes hello, it’s Danhausen.” It’s a blend of fun and a slight absurdity, which seems to be right up his alley.

He even had a playful nod to Oscar the Grouch, asking the mayor to secure the Muppet an apartment to help him out. There’s something charming about how he’s mixing real-world issues with his entertainment persona, which is clearly a reflection of his character’s dual nature—“so kind, so evil,” as he puts it.

Interestingly, Danhausen claims to have cursed his fellow WWE wrestlers, which some say has also affected teams like the Carolina Hurricanes. When the Hurricanes faced the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals, Danhausen appeared on the video board and jokingly “cursed” them. The Golden Knights went on to take that game in double overtime, now leading the series 2-1. Danhausen is even calling for “human capital” from the Hurricanes to help lift the so-called curse. It’s all a bit whimsical, yet it does capture a sense of intrigue within the sports community.

As for the Knicks? They seem to be riding high after benefitting from what many are interpreting as a curse being lifted. Meanwhile, the New York Mets, on the other hand, still appear somewhat beleaguered under Danhausen’s enigmatic hold, which adds another layer to this ongoing saga.
