Fight erupts between police, graduates, and parents following California high school graduation, resulting in four arrests

A disagreement broke out following a graduation ceremony at a high school in California, leading to four individuals being arrested.

After the ceremony at Kerman High School, things took a turn for the worse when an argument began between two seniors in the parking lot. It escalated quickly, as reported by local news. The senior involved was already on probation and was detained before the situation worsened.

“Things should have calmed down then, but emotions were high, and family members got involved,” stated Kerman Police Lt. Will Balcoma.

Footage from the scene revealed multiple officers trying to manage the chaos, while one woman, identified as the senior’s mother, was thrown to the ground and appeared to struggle until bystanders intervened.

Reports indicated that a teenage girl also lashed out by striking a police officer and resisting arrest.

Ultimately, four people went to jail related to the incident, including the senior and another boy who faced charges for instigating a fight.

The senior was charged with violation of a court order and obstructing a business, while his mother was charged with resisting law enforcement.

Students expressed disappointment, with one, Giovanna Hans, sharing, “That’s not how I want to remember my graduation.” She added that any disputes should be settled elsewhere, especially not during such a significant event.

This incident followed another altercation at a different graduation in California’s Central Valley the previous week, where six people were arrested after a fight broke out. Among those arrested was a 19-year-old graduate, whose family claimed his involvement stemmed from an insult aimed at his deceased brother.

Three others, all young men in their late teens or early twenties, were also taken into custody for causing a disturbance. Police had initially arrested a woman related to another altercation shortly before this incident occurred.
