Incident Involving Officer Shooting in Pasadena

The Pasadena Police Department recently released unsettling footage from an incident that occurred on September 7, 2025. In this incident, one officer reportedly shot another officer by accident.

Chief Gene Harris characterized the event as a “suspected accidental officer-involved shooting” resulting from “dangerous and unlawful horseplay with a loaded firearm.” Fortunately, the officer who was injured has since made a full recovery.

In the released video, viewers can see an officer draw a weapon and aim it at a vehicle that was approaching, before putting the gun back in its holster. Suddenly, smoke is seen billowing from the vehicle, accompanied by a bullet hole in the windshield, and the officer who had just holstered the gun reacts as if he has been shot.

“As the video shows, one officer moved towards another who was near a police vehicle. One officer, seemingly out of place, hastily drew his firearm and aimed it at the officer in the approaching car. After a brief moment, he reholstered his weapon,” explained the chief.

The officer inside the vehicle also pulled out a gun from the driver’s seat, directing it at his fellow officer, according to the chief’s account.

“During this encounter, the gun discharged, hitting the windshield of the police vehicle and, subsequently, the officer standing outside in the left shoulder,” Harris added.

The chief mentioned that their understanding of the incident could change as more evidence comes to light. While an administrative investigation is complete and disciplinary actions have been taken, criminal investigations are still ongoing.

“This unfortunate act does not align with the standards and commitments upheld by our department. Necessary measures will be implemented to ensure that our culture reflects the right behaviors, values, and service expected in our community,” he concluded.
