Conviction of Massachusetts Attorney General’s Brother
A jury has found Alvin Campbell, the brother of Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell, guilty of sexual assault against multiple women. This occurred while he was impersonating a rideshare driver.
At 45 years old, Campbell was convicted on 21 out of 22 charges related to sexual assaults that took place between 2017 and 2019, as reported by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Interestingly, the jury could not reach a unanimous decision on one of the rape charges.
The district attorney indicated that there would be discussions later regarding possible actions related to the remaining charge. Campbell could face a life sentence, with sentencing scheduled for June 29.
According to prosecutors, Campbell targeted women outside bars and other venues while posing as a rideshare driver. It raises a lot of questions about safety in such situations, doesn’t it?
Andrea Campbell made history in 1999 as the first woman of color to win statewide office in Massachusetts and was appointed as Attorney General in 2023. A spokesperson for her office did not provide an immediate comment following the jury’s decision.
Previously, she has publicly addressed her family’s challenges within the criminal justice system, including her brother’s serious charges. In an interview, she mentioned the importance of sharing personal stories, emphasizing that there’s no shame in discussing difficult family histories.
Post-verdict, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden described Alvin Campbell as someone who “deceptively and calculatedly” exploited vulnerable women. He expressed his sympathy, saying that it’s hard to fathom the terror those women faced.
Meanwhile, Campbell’s legal representation has not responded to requests for comment regarding the trial.
Hayden extended gratitude to the women who came forward to testify, acknowledging their courage. “We are pleased and grateful that we were able to secure justice and accountability for them,” he stated.
