On Friday morning, a tragic shooting unfolded in Midland, Texas, resulting in the death of the suspected gunman. Authorities indicated that law enforcement was involved in a confrontation.

The Midland Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 4600 block of West Wall Street, as confirmed by local officials.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene. One bystander noted seeing a drone overhead along with numerous police vehicles, stating, “There must have been 50 police officers, almost like a small army.”

As officers responded, they heard shots coming from the building and took immediate action to secure the area. Armored units were deployed, and other agencies provided assistance.

Authorities reported at least one individual was killed, with ten others sustaining injuries. A source mentioned that nine victims were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where some underwent surgery, with varying conditions.

Mayor Lori Bron stated that the suspect was seen deceased via drone footage, as shared with CBS News.

Among the victims, three surgeries were performed, while one person was in recovery. Two more individuals remained stable in the emergency department.

Another victim was transferred to Odessa Medical Center Hospital. However, confirmation about all victims being shot was not available from city representatives.

Footage from the scene depicted the severity of the situation, showing the resonance of gunfire.

Mayor Bron assured CBS News that there were no reported injuries to officers involved in the incident.

Lee Carlyle, staying at a nearby motel, recounted his experience. He mentioned hearing around 20 gunshots, noting that the intensity of the situation escalated quickly, reflecting the urgency of the police response.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “Cecilia and I are deeply saddened by the senseless act of violence in Midland. We are praying for the victims, their families, and the community.” He commended the prompt response of the Midland Police and associated law enforcement agencies.
