Homeowner Responds to Intruder Threat in California

A homeowner in California was visiting neighbors when he suddenly heard gunshots and screams coming from his own house. He rushed back to confront a shocking situation at home.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a residence on Heron Way in San Jacinto shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Friday following reports of shots being fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds and declared him dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Ismael Martinez, according to local reports.

The homeowner had received alarming news from his wife about an intruder firing a gun. He quickly armed himself with a weapon from his garage and then engaged in a shootout with Martinez.

While Martinez sustained a bruise, no other injuries were reported. The investigation showed that prior to the homeowner’s intervention, Martinez had assaulted his girlfriend, aged 52, with a knife. Afterward, he fled and targeted her family at their home. The woman was found inside a vehicle and later hospitalized, but her condition was reported as stable.

Authorities mentioned there were no links between Martinez or his girlfriend and the residents of the home where he broke in.

A neighbor, Frankie Aguilar, shared details about the incident, noting that the couple was at home during the chaos. His wife had come back briefly to charge her phone and encountered the armed intruder.

“While she screamed, he was firing at her with a shotgun,” Aguilar recounted, adding there was also a teenage daughter present when the shooting occurred.

Another neighbor, Robert Drameh, expressed admiration for the homeowner’s quick actions, stating, “His goal was to get his daughter out safely, no matter what happened to him.”

Neighbors expressed their shock, remarking that the family involved were good people. The case will be handed over to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for further examination.

Many in the community believe that the homeowner acted in self-defense during the traumatic events. A family friend has also set up a GoFundMe account to assist with costs related to the incident.
