Monica McNutt’s Comment on Taylor Swift at Knicks Game
During Wednesday’s New York Knicks game, ESPN reporter Monica McNutt made headlines for her comment directed at pop star Taylor Swift, who was spotted in the crowd. McNutt jokingly asked a colleague, “Is that Taylor Swift over there?” before expressing her opinion, saying, “She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl.”
McNutt’s remarks quickly gained traction, with other commentators chiming in. One user openly declared, “Oh, I hate this woman,” sharing footage of Swift at the game. Another user referenced Roman history, suggesting that, “The Romans considered lawyers and actors to be low-class trash,” in a critique of Swift’s appearance.
Additional comments on social media included critiques like, “This is what kids call no aura,” and another user mentioned, “I might lose followers over this, but Taylor Swift is one of the most obnoxious people on the planet. Prove me wrong.”
However, not everyone was critical. A note attached to a post clarified that Swift has been a Knicks supporter since at least 2014, when she moved to New York and was seen posing with players. McNutt later issued an apology, stating, “I misspoke. I didn’t know.” She acknowledged her error and referred to Swift wearing an Amare Stoudemire jersey during the game.
In her defense, McNutt shared that she had recently discussed celebrity controversies, noting, “I literally just did a piece about celebrity turmoil.” She expressed that she wasn’t aware of Swift’s allegiance to the Knicks, adding, “Sorry if I’m wrong, but it looks like I’m wrong.” McNutt wrapped up the conversation by highlighting her surprise at not seeing more celebrities supporting the Knicks during the season.
