Manager at McDonald’s Speaks After Severe Oil Attack
A manager from a McDonald’s in Northern California has come forward to share his experience following a horrific incident where a co-worker reportedly threw red hot oil on him. Jacob Smith, only 20, has expressed that he feels fortunate to be alive after suffering significant burns.
Having sustained third-degree burns on his face, neck, hands, and shoulders, Smith is currently receiving specialized care at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. In a recent TikTok video, he conveyed his gratitude for the support he’s received during this painful ordeal, which he described as one of the most challenging experiences of his life.
Smith detailed the pain he has endured, stating, “It was very, very painful. It’s definitely one of the hardest things to get over in my life.” In his hospital room, with bandages covering his arm and neck, he shared, “I’m so grateful for everything, and everyone has messed up the GoFundMe,” referring to a fundraising effort started by his mother.
On May 30, police reported that Smith’s co-worker, Jalani Blewett, aged 23, allegedly assaulted him by throwing oil. Following the attack, Blewett went missing but was located and taken into custody a few days later.
Smith’s mother, Amber, initiated a fundraiser to support her son, quickly approaching their goal of $200,000 to cover living expenses and medical bills during his recovery process. She remarked, “Jacob is only 20 years old and has worked hard to build his future. This unexpected tragedy has caused a major setback at a time when he should have been looking forward to building his life and planning for his future.”
Amber described the heart-wrenching moment Jacob questioned her about the situation, expressing her wishes for him to focus on recovery rather than financial stress. As of now, Jacob has undergone several surgeries, including skin grafts, and is facing a long road to recovery.
Blewett has been booked into Sutter County Jail on several charges such as battery causing serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon, and is anticipated to appear in court soon.
The motive behind this shocking attack remains unclear. “Jacob has a long road ahead, but he’s strong. With the support of family, friends, and our community, we believe he can overcome this difficult chapter,” Amber wrote in her message of thanks to those supporting her son.
The California Post has reached out to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office for further details on the case.
