Joan Collins on Aging Gracefully
Joan Collins, the iconic actress, still remains active at 93, recently promoting her new film, *My Duchess*. During an event hosted by Variety magazine, she shared her straightforward approach to aging with grace. “I just love life,” Collins remarked. Each day starts with her embracing the morning, making sure to stay hydrated and sleep well.
Even someone like Collins faces moments where a confidence boost is needed. Her go-to remedy? Watching classic films. “If you’re lucky, you might occasionally find an old Bette Davis movie,” she explained, adding her fondness for films from the ’80s and ’90s featuring actors like Jack Nicholson and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Collins, who has been nominated for an Emmy, emphasizes the importance of fitness. She trains regularly, opting for basic Pilates exercises. “I train with a trainer several times a week. It keeps me feeling my best,” she noted.
When it comes to her daily steps, Collins admitted, “I’m bored. I walk around the apartment fiddling with flowers, but that’s it. It sounds silly, yet it’s true.” Reflecting on her genetics, she expressed gratitude for inheriting strong traits from her parents. “My father lived to be 87, and my mother cared incredibly well for us,” she shared.
Collins finds joy in having a youthful spirit, which she believes is partially due to her husband, Percy Gibson, who is 32 years younger. They tied the knot in 2002, and she feels lucky to have finally found her “prince.” She happily reflected, “We were great friends even before we got married. It was gradual, but we realized we were on the same wavelength.” For her, the age difference is just a detail. Life can bring love at any age, she believes.
Collins reminisced about her early days, bursting with enthusiasm and energy. “I was always so active as a kid. Crosswords, dollhouses, reading—all at once!” she recalled. Her philosophy on life is simple but profound: “Life is a gift. That’s why they call it a present. It doesn’t last long, and wasting it is sadly common.” In her memoir, *Behind the Shoulder Pads*, she wrote about how her zest for life keeps her going strong.
