Tragic Highway Incident in Kentucky
A California woman lost her life in a Kentucky highway accident while attempting to save her dog, which had become trapped in the traffic.
Moravia Siddhi Suresh was riding in the passenger seat when her vehicle hydroplaned on Interstate 75 in Rockcastle County and collided with a concrete wall, according to state trooper Scotty Pennington.
Both Suresh, 33, and the driver emerged from the June 8 crash with minor injuries, Pennington noted.
However, after Suresh exited the vehicle and opened the back door to check on her dog, the pet bolted onto the busy highway, prompting her to chase after it.
Authorities report that Caleb Valentine, 25, from London, Kentucky, struck both Suresh and her dog with his Chevrolet Malibu during this chaotic moment.
Although Suresh was rushed to the hospital, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Tragically, her dog also did not survive.
As of Saturday afternoon, no charges had been filed against Valentine regarding the incident, Pennington stated.
The investigation continues, with police indicating that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the accidents.
Suresh was a physical therapist based in Fremont and had a deep love for dogs.
She had previously worked as the Director of Rehabilitation at Lockport Management Services, overseeing over 70 nursing homes, as seen on her LinkedIn profile.
In her LinkedIn and Facebook photos, she appears beaming while holding her dog, Penelope.
According to Pennington, the dog that was killed was identified as a Goldendoodle, though it remains uncertain if Penelope—playfully nicknamed “Penny”—was the one involved in the tragic event.
To mark Penelope’s fourth birthday, Suresh made a charitable contribution in February to The Voice of Stray Dogs, an organization focused on feeding animals in need.
The organization shared, “Siddy, a huge dog lover, adores Penny and refers to her as ‘the happiest accident of his life.’ She simply cannot envision life any other way.” To celebrate, Suresh sponsored a meal for the animals at the charity in Pennie’s honor.
