Jacob Misiorowski Makes History with Record-Setting Pitch
On Friday night, Jacob Misiorowski etched his name in the record books by delivering the fastest pitch ever thrown by a starting pitcher at a staggering 165 mph. Before this impressive feat, he had a clear sense of his abilities.
During a recent guest spot on “On Base with Mookie Betts,” the celebrated Dodgers player posed a question to Misiorowski regarding the hardest ball he could throw. Misiorowski confidently replied, “I think it’s 104 or 105. I think I can touch five.”
In the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Misiorowski recorded his third strikeout with that 165 mph pitch, delivering it on a 2-2 count to Kyle Schwarber. The fastball was aimed straight down the middle, catching Schwarber off guard.
This match ended in a resounding 6-0 win for the Brewers, marking a stellar night for Misiorowski. He pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit, and amassed a remarkable 15 strikeouts. This performance puts him in the company of Ben Sheets and Corbin Burnes as the only pitchers to achieve 15 strikeouts in a game.
In total, Misiorowski threw 95 pitches, with 69 of those being fastballs. An incredible 58 of those fastballs exceeded 100 mph, leading to 12 of his strikeouts coming from these high-speed pitches.
As the season progresses, Misiorowski is emerging as a frontrunner for the Cy Young Award, sharing the limelight with Phillies pitcher Christopher Sanchez. His transformation into one of baseball’s premier pitchers seems well underway.
This year, both Misiorowski and Sanchez are sitting pretty with an 8-2 record. Misiorowski leads the league with a stellar 1.34 ERA and 131 strikeouts.
During the same episode, Betts queried Misiorowski on whether he believed future pitchers would consistently reach speeds over 100 mph. Misiorowski’s take? “I don’t think so. I think it’s going to be more common for starting pitchers to hit 100 mph, but I don’t think there are many players who can sustain 100 mph.”
