Suspect in Shooting Death of Virginia Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested After Two-Day Manhunt
Michael Puckett, aged 55, has been apprehended in Surry County, North Carolina, following a two-day search related to the murder of Virginia Sheriff’s Deputy Logan Att. Officials confirmed that Puckett fired at two deputies during a welfare check in Carroll County. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger commended Deputy Att for his bravery and commitment to the community.
A six-hour operation at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California concluded with the arrest of two suspects who allegedly entered the base while fleeing from law enforcement. They reportedly abandoned a vehicle that contained over 110 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl, according to authorities.
The incident, described by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) as “high-stakes,” began when the suspects allegedly crashed into the base’s gate. After abandoning their vehicle in a military housing area, they fled on foot.
This prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order as authorities worked to secure the area. In response, NCIS initiated a search involving around 30 officers to locate the suspects.
Military and law enforcement personnel meticulously combed the expansive base for six hours, supported by real-time tracking assistance from the NCIS Multi-Threat Warning Center and Area Enforcement Capability Team. Both suspects were ultimately apprehended without incident.
Later, investigators discovered approximately 51 kilograms (over 112 pounds) of cocaine and fentanyl in the abandoned vehicle. NCIS expressed gratitude on social media toward all involved agencies for their collaborative efforts in maintaining security at military installations.
Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the suspects or the specific charges they may face.
