As fans and organizers gear up for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Freedom 250 event, excitement is palpable on the South Lawn of the White House. This celebration honors the 250th birthday of Team USA.
The weekend has been filled with various attractions leading up to the main fights, which are set to kick off on Sunday at 8 PM ET.
Interestingly, June 14 not only marks the UFC event but also Flag Day and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. It’s a significant day, as it also represents the 251st anniversary of the U.S. Army, tracing back to its roots as the Continental Army before the nation declared independence.
The UFC highlighted the importance of this occasion in a social media post, capturing the excitement of the moment.
“Once in a lifetime. It’s finally #UFCWhiteHouse Fight Day!” they shared on X.
Following this, the White House joined in the festivities on social media, expressing their enthusiasm.
“Wake up! It’s a night of war,” the White House proclaimed, posting a video of President Trump energetically repeating “fight, fight, fight.”
“Fight, fight, fight,” they reiterated, describing the event as “250 Days of UFC Freedom.”
Freedom 250 has organized numerous activities to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, drawing parallels between today’s battles and the nation’s beginnings.
“The original heavyweight title match,” they stated, alongside an image of George Washington and King George III. The post concluded with, “Fight for Freedom. July 4, 1776.”
The main card features seven fights taking place in an octagonal ring built especially for the event. However, weather conditions remain a concern.
“UFC Freedom 250 faces chaotic weather conditions on the South Lawn of the White House, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and wind gusts up to 34 mph, potentially delaying the outdoor bouts,” the Weather Channel shared.
“Even though the venue has a 92-foot overhang to keep the Octagon dry, any lightning strike within eight miles will result in a 30-minute halt to the event.”
Despite the forecasts, many organizations, including the Department of the Army, are still promoting the event.
“UFC Freedom 250 celebrates the fighting spirit that lives in every American warrior standing guard around the world,” they stated.
Saturday’s festivities included a performance by the Zac Brown Band, who sang Lee Greenwood’s beloved “God Bless the USA.” Details suggest he will also perform the national anthem with the U.S. Marine Corps Band on Sunday.
