Father of murdered teenager criticizes Frisco ISD superintendent for the killer’s graduation

Professor attributes the values of the deceased teen's father to the Karmelo Anthony case.

Carmelo Anthony supporters make ‘disgusting’ comments about murder victim after sentencing

After the verdict involving Carmelo Anthony, troubling reactions emerged, with some supporters making light of the murder of Austin Metcalf online. Will Kane noted that a disturbing AI-generated image circulated, which depicted someone urinating on Metcalf’s grave, accompanied by an inappropriate caption. The outrage over this behavior is palpable, with Kane describing it as both “despicable” and “incredible,” raising questions about how widespread this sentiment might be.

Jeff Metcalf, the father of the murdered teenager, has spoken out about the fallout from the case. His son, Austin, was killed by Carmelo Anthony during a track meet in April 2025. Following Anthony’s conviction for murder and 35-year prison sentence for the stabbing, Metcalf shared his sense of loss and disappointment.

In comments he made to Fox News Digital, Metcalf expressed concern about how the Frisco Independent School District handled the situation, particularly regarding Anthony’s graduation. He strongly criticized the former superintendent, Mike Waldrip, saying he “folded up like a cheap tent” under pressure from Anthony’s supporters who pushed for him to graduate, despite the serious allegations against him.

During a recent podcast interview, Metcalf reiterated his feelings towards Waldrip, calling him “the most spineless, mean human being I’ve ever met.” He conveyed his anger about Anthony graduating from high school after the incident and emphasized that the school’s decision lacked justification. “He did not return to school after April 2nd,” Metcalf asserted, noting that they could have denied him a diploma even if he had credits.

In his remarks, Metcalf pointed out the school’s policies regarding expulsion for serious offenses like murder, which he believes should have barred Anthony from graduation. He further criticized the lack of security at the track meet where his son was attacked, highlighting the absence of metal detectors and proper safety measures. “They were negligent in this respect,” he stated, underlining his frustration with the overall handling of security at school events.

It appears that Mr. Waldrip, who was the superintendent during the tragedy, announced his retirement from the school district a few months later in November 2025. Fox News Digital has reached out for comments from Waldrip and the Frisco Independent School District regarding the allegations made by Metcalf.
