Senator Johnson from the GOP: ‘Unsatisfied with the Result’ regarding Iran, but Required ‘Compromise’ to Unblock the Strait

"I Want to Examine" the Need for $200 Billion in Iran Funding by the Department of War

Sen. Ron Johnson’s Take on Iran’s Situation

During a recent appearance on Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) shared his thoughts on the situation in Iran, expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. He suggested that President Trump would also be unhappy with the results. Johnson indicated that Trump likely hoped for an unconditional surrender from Iran, which, he pointed out, didn’t materialize. He emphasized the need for a balanced approach, acknowledging Iran’s control over the Strait and the necessity of keeping it open.

Johnson expressed hope that the Iranian people might eventually rise up against their oppressive regime. He mentioned that this was likely a goal of the Trump administration, believing that military actions could weaken the regime enough for a popular uprising. While he identified himself as an American, he noted that there was significant public opposition to deploying ground forces to dismantle Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and topple the regime, which left the situation uncertain. He suggested that the military might act again if there was movement towards Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Moreover, he remarked that removing the regime would require a more aggressive approach, such as ground troops, which, he argued, was impractical due to the Iranian people’s disarmed state. Johnson reflected on how difficult it is to change deeply entrenched beliefs overnight, reinforcing his view that President Trump recognized the challenging reality. He expressed concern over the reopening of the Straits and its potential negative impact on the economy.

In conclusion, he reiterated that some negotiation is essential for opening the Strait while recognizing the ongoing tensions surrounding it. Johnson was clear in his sentiments: he didn’t like how things had turned out, and he believed Trump would share this sentiment. He emphasized again that the Iranian populace wasn’t able to take a stand.

Johnson also pointed out, “We can keep them in a box,” and asserted that any movement towards nuclear facilities should be met with military action once more.
