Clinton expressed concern that Biden’s choice could negatively impact his legacy and the country. She noted, “If he had said back in late summer of ’23 that he wouldn’t run and planned to pass the torch to a new generation, it could have turned into a legitimate campaign.” This statement came after Biden’s withdrawal from the race in late July 2024, following a disastrous debate performance.
