Iranian state media describes US deal as a triumph over America and Israel

The state media of Iran is celebrating a memorandum of understanding with the United States, which aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and tackle concerns around Iran’s nuclear ambitions, portraying it as a significant win over both the U.S. and Israel.

This pivotal diplomatic agreement, referred to as the initial MOU, is set to be finalized in a signing ceremony in Switzerland on June 19. Iranian state television has claimed that the “United States is compelled to sign an agreement to end the war.”

The State Department regards Iran as a leading state sponsor of terrorism, and Iranian analysts note that the nation’s media is well-known for broadcasting anti-U.S. sentiments.

Recently, President Trump touted the peace deal with Iran, announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and encouraging oil exports. He stated, “Let the oil flow!”

According to Iran’s news agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Ghalibabadi indicated that the memorandum is framed not out of trust in adversaries, but rather from a place of cautious skepticism, emphasizing the need for vigilance regarding U.S. commitments. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted the significance of national unity and citizen involvement as pivotal to Iran’s diplomatic efforts.

Araghchi asserted that Iran’s global strength comes from military capabilities paired with the solidarity and resilience of its populace.

Iran’s top diplomat remarked on the tactical and strategic triumphs Iran has achieved in recent conflicts, suggesting that these outcomes influence both regional and international dynamics.

Trump shared updates on the memorandum, announcing via social media that the agreement is now finalized, permitting the unrestricted opening of the Strait and lifting the U.S. naval blockade. His message to world shipping was clear: “Start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

The memorandum contains elements that are still somewhat speculative, such as timelines for lifting sanctions and curbing Iran’s uranium enrichment efforts geared toward nuclear arms. On the same day, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council declared an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across various fronts, including Lebanon.

Lisa Daftari, an expert on Iran, commented that while state media are framing this as a victory, the underlying message suggests that Iran has pressured the U.S. into concessions without making significant sacrifices itself. She pointed out that the nature of the Iranian regime is built on deception, cautioning that the U.S. should be wary of potential loopholes and renewed nuclear ambitions.

Drawing attention to bipartisan perspectives in the U.S., Vice President J.D. Vance remarked on the implications of the deal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a nuclear-free Iran.

Cameron Kansarinia, a former aide to a prominent Iranian opposition leader, declared that the struggle for freedom in Iran is independent of such agreements, asserting that change is ultimately in the hands of the Iranian people.

Maryam Rajavi, another noted Iranian resistance figure, expressed that the Iranian folks desire peace, not war, contrary to the regime’s needs. She asserted that any agreement to conclude hostilities should also address human rights issues, including the cessation of political executions.
