James Carville Doubles Down on Trump Resignation Prediction
Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville reaffirmed his provocative assertion on Wednesday, claiming that President Donald Trump will “resign next spring.” He made these comments during a video appearance at Politicon.
Carville pushed back against accusations that his prediction was meant to attract media attention. “People said, ‘Oh, that’s so smart, you listen a lot. You like to say things that are kind of crazy,’” he stated. “But let me be clear: I’m not making this claim just for shock value. I genuinely believe he will resign next spring.”
He cited Trump’s allegedly deteriorating health and increasing political pressures as significant reasons behind his forecast.
“Everyone around you is being subpoenaed for everything you can imagine,” Carville noted, seemingly addressing Trump directly. “Your life is miserable.” He expressed a belief that Trump has “declined” during his second term and showed little interest in governance.
“If you look at him, you can see how unhealthy he is,” Carville remarked.
In a further critique, Carville compared Trump to Bill Clinton and argued that any efforts to regain popularity after his midterm defeat would be futile. “He doesn’t have the stamina,” he commented, noting that while Clinton managed a comeback, Trump is not in the same position today. “Donald Trump is not the Bill Clinton of 1995,” he concluded.
Carville suggested that upon leaving office, Trump might seek a pardon from presidential candidate J.D. Vance. “He’s going to J.D. Vance. His lawyer might suggest, ‘Look, you can stay or you can pardon yourself. There’s uncertainty about that, but there’s none concerning whether President Vance can pardon you and your family,’” he said. “So I’m sticking to my prediction.”
The veteran political analyst’s initial comments from a previous discussion indicated that he believes Republicans are preparing to remove Trump following the midterms. “Trump has no idea what’s coming,” Carville asserted earlier. “A vote against him in November will be breathtaking.”
He elaborated, “He’s already bored. He can’t stay awake. He’s talking about being tired of the Iran war. I’m telling you, this guy is going to walk away from this job by Easter 2027. It’s going to be a massive rejection of him and everyone connected to him.”
In response to Carville’s predictions, White House Press Secretary Davis Engle condemned them, labeling Carville as “a total loser with a serious and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Looking back at the fall of 2024, Carville had predicted a victory for Kamala Harris in an op-ed, expressing confidence that she would be elected as the next president.
