Discussion on “The View” Sparks Debate Over J.D. Vance’s Appearance
On Friday, the co-hosts of “The View” criticized Joy Behar for how she handled Vice President J.D. Vance’s appearance on the show earlier in the week. They claimed she was merely emulating the late Barbara Walters’ style.
Reflecting on the interview, Behar remarked, “It’s similar to what happened with J.D. He was here the other day. I respect the office. I believe in reaching across the aisle. I do that.”
Sunny Hostin chimed in, asking, “But I want to know, why are you so obsessed with J.D. Vance?”
Behar quickly clarified, “I wasn’t in love. I’m not in love with him and I’m not in love with this administration.”
Whoopi Goldberg’s Take on Trump and Iran
Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg commented that President Trump’s actions regarding Iran seem aimed at diverting attention from the ongoing Nancy Guthrie scandal.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Vance jokingly suggested that his time on “The View” demonstrated his capability in “adversarial, high-stakes negotiations” with Iran. He humorously stated, “I just want to point out to my progressive critics that I spent over an hour on The View just two days ago, and I actually have great experience in very adversarial negotiations. You know, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now.”
A clip of this exchange was later played on Friday’s show, leading Hostin to quip, “What?! Were we harder to deal with than the Iranian government?”, which drew laughter from the audience and co-hosts.
In a more serious vein, when Ana Navarro asked Behar if she would negotiate with the Iranian government, Behar expressed skepticism, replying, “I think he’s talking crazy.”
Behar’s Defense of Vance
Navarro praised Vance for his strategic approach during the show, stating, “He kindly came in strategically prepared to disarm us. He was personable, quick to laugh, and came in as a very kind person.” However, she added, “It worked for you, but it didn’t work for me.”
Hostin echoed her sentiments: “It didn’t work for me either.”
Behar appeared somewhat annoyed at the suggestion she was manipulated, stating, “It didn’t ‘work’ for me. That wasn’t the case. I respect the office. I’m a civilized person and if someone comes to my show, I treat them like a human being.”
Hostin later acknowledged, “Barbara Walters certainly said that,” citing the late founder of the show. Behar chimed in, saying she had studied under Walters, reminiscing about Walters’ advice to keep politeness in mind when hosting guests.
Co-Hosts’ Mixed Opinions on Vance
While some co-hosts remained skeptical of Vance’s political trajectory, Behar defended him, mentioning, “You know what? I believe in human redemption. I remember when he wrote ‘Hillbilly Elegy.’ He grew up poor. It was a really good book. He wasn’t the person he is now. I agree with that too, but maybe he’ll go back to it. Who knows? All I can do is hope!”
It’s worth noting that during a commercial break, Behar also told Vance that he had a good vibe “as a Republican” and suggested he consider a run for president.
