The 2026 World Cup has already seen some incredible performances from major stars.
Norway’s Erling Haaland netted twice in his debut match, while Argentina’s Lionel Messi scored his first World Cup hat-trick recently. Kylian Mbappé also made an impact with two goals in his first game for France. All three celebrated wins for their teams.
In contrast, Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal didn’t meet expectations. He failed to score in a disappointing 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, receiving criticism for his underwhelming play.
Ronaldo is no stranger to media scrutiny, and there’s still time for Portugal to improve their standings in the upcoming group stage matches.
This situation seems to have upset his sister, Katia Aveiro, a singer from Portugal.
Following the match, she expressed her frustration via Instagram Stories: “Magically, they forgot how to pass, win the ball back and mount a counter-attack. It became all about passing backwards in midfield. A strange World Cup. So strange. 😳😳🙂🙂🙂”.
But that wasn’t all. On another occasion, she shared a post where she wore a Brazilian outfit ahead of a match against Haiti in the World Cup.
This raised some eyebrows since her brother is one of the biggest names in Portuguese sports history. However, she has ties to Brazil through her marriage to Brazilian businessman Alexandre Bertolucci, and they have a daughter together.
So, while it makes sense to support Brazil, it’s still a bit quirky given the significance of Ronaldo’s current World Cup journey.
