Missing South Carolina Fitness Trainer Found Dead

Elena Katherine Moore, a 39-year-old fitness trainer from South Carolina, was discovered deceased this week. Friends recalled that, in the years leading up to her death, Moore had expressed a desire to leave her husband and end their relationship.

Moore’s body was found on Wednesday afternoon in Lexington, South Carolina, with the coroner’s office confirming her identity on Friday. She had last been spotted leaving a Planet Fitness gym on June 11. Her body was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Authorities are expected to release more details on Monday.

A close friend of Moore, Aston Jeffcoat, shared a Facebook Messenger screenshot from July 13, 2017, indicating Moore’s wish to separate from her husband, Brannon Slice. “Hey girl, I’m not sure about your situation…but just reading your post makes me think I too may be ending my almost 5 year relationship and looking for a roommate!! Please let me know!” Moore wrote in the message.

While the reasons behind Moore’s desire to end her relationship remain unclear, there have been no accusations against her husband. Lt. Missy Silcox from the Lexington Police Department mentioned that Slice is not considered a person of interest currently.

Lauren Beasley, another friend, mentioned that Moore often went through cycles of wanting to end her relationship but ultimately didn’t take action. “She didn’t know what to do and said things like, ‘I love him,’ but that things would be fine after that,” Beasley noted, highlighting the ongoing struggle Moore faced.

Sondra Campbell, a close friend, added that Moore had tried to leave her partner before and expressed concerns for her safety. “She feared for her life. She actually said those words to me,” Campbell shared, noting how deeply she felt for her friend. Moore, she commented, was someone who wouldn’t normally walk alone at night.

According to LPD Chief Terrence Green, the body was located after investigators received new information leading to a different search location. They discovered the body around 2:48 p.m., and it matched the clothing description of the missing trainer.

Moore was last seen at approximately 2 p.m. on June 11, walking in a Publix parking lot in Lexington.
