Police Take 'White Scottish Man' Into Custody Following Stabbings Near Mosque in Edinburgh

Authorities in Edinburgh have apprehended a white man following a series of knife attacks that left five men injured on Friday night.

Unlike many previous incidents where the suspect’s background is often not disclosed, Police Scotland announced on Saturday that a “36-year-old white Scottish man” has been arrested in connection with the stabbings.

The police reported that the first two victims were attacked in the Sight Hill area around 8:50 p.m., followed by three more assaults in Telford Road and Leith Walk. Additionally, multiple shops reported threats involving robbery and vandalism during this period.

Officers apprehended the suspect at 9:30 p.m. after threatening to deploy a Taser. Three of the injured men were taken to the hospital, though none had life-threatening injuries.

According to scotland daily records, the initial attack reportedly occurred near the Blumhouse Mosque. The publication also mentioned that a local Islamic group, MEND, indicated that some of the victims belonged to the Muslim community.

There were also claims made in the record suggesting that a handcuffed individual was heard shouting from the ground, “I’m protecting this country.”

Deputy Constable Catriona Payton of Police Scotland stated, “This was a shocking attack, and our first thoughts are for those injured and directly affected.

“We want to communicate a clear message of support to all communities that racism and hatred based on faith have no place in Scotland. It’s when we unite that our nation truly thrives.

“The safety of the public was our main concern as officers responded swiftly to numerous reports of a rapidly evolving situation across Edinburgh that led to the arrest.

“Extensive efforts are in progress to understand the full context of these events. We are collaborating with counter-terrorism police and acting under the guidance of the Crown Prosecution Service and the Prosecution Fiscal Service.”

“I want to express my appreciation for the police officers who demonstrated courage, professionalism, and a strong commitment to public safety.

“We are deeply thankful for the community’s assistance and encourage anyone with information to come forward. A police portal has been established for serious incidents.”
