Updates on Mets Players
PHILADELPHIA — Christian Scott made some progress on Saturday as he eyes a return to the Mets after his required 15 days on the injured list. The right-handed pitcher had a bullpen session before the Mets faced the Phillies, and he reported feeling good. Scott has been on the IL since Monday (retroactive to June 12) due to a right hip impingement.
Manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned that the bullpen is currently full and the intensity is high, leaving them with no choice but to wait for Scott’s return. The next step for Scott may involve facing batters in live batting practice. Interestingly, Mendoza didn’t rule out the possibility of Scott returning directly to the Majors without needing a minor league rehab stint.
This season, Scott has made nine starts for the Mets, maintaining a 3.10 ERA.
Meanwhile, Francisco Lindor is set to play on Sunday at Triple-A Syracuse. His performance will help determine whether he needs more at-bats in the minors or if he can return to the Mets soon. Lindor took Saturday off after playing a game at Double-A Binghamton the previous day. Alongside Lindor, Tyron Taylor and Ronnie Mauricio are also scheduled to play on Sunday in their rehab efforts.
David Peterson is slated to be the starting pitcher for the final game of the series on Sunday night. Previously, Tobias Myers opened this rotation spot but had a tough outing. Peterson’s season has been lackluster, posting a 5.91 ERA while shifting between the starting rotation and the bullpen. In his last outing, he allowed three earned runs over three innings of relief.
“We’ve had a string of bullpen and opener games,” Mendoza noted. “The lineup we’re facing is familiar, mostly left-handed, and he’s had success against them before. Whether it’s Peterson, Sean Manaea, or Kodai Chiga, we need them, and Peterson will get another chance on Sunday. We’re looking forward to it.”
Mendoza also shared his excitement about attending the World Cup game between Brazil and Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field on Friday night. He remarked on his support for Brazil, having grown up in Venezuela, and mentioned that it was thrilling to watch the World Cup for the first time, especially given the atmosphere.
