Neighbors reported that a personal trainer from South Carolina seemed “disoriented” after experiencing two unusual interactions shortly before he vanished. This occurred just days before his body was found in a wooded area following extensive searches by law enforcement and emergency responders.
Elena Katherine Moore, 39, was last captured on surveillance footage leaving a Planet Fitness in Lexington on June 11 around 9:17 p.m. She proceeded into a wooded region behind a Lowe’s hardware store.
Her remains were located on June 17, near Lakeside Middle School, approximately two miles from where she had last been seen.
Brannon Slice, Moore’s husband, reported her missing the day after she disappeared, describing the situation as “very insane.”
A week prior, a neighbor named John Moore, who isn’t related to Elena, along with his girlfriend, Sarah Burleson, shared some Ring camera footage showing Moore interacting with a DoorDash delivery left at his front door.
As John opened the door, it appeared that Elena briefly tried to follow him inside but then stopped.
Burleson mentioned that while she was out walking her dog an hour later, she spotted Elena examining a package placed outside another neighbor’s apartment. When questioned about what she was doing, Elena reportedly replied, “Honestly, I don’t know.”
“Her confusion troubles me. If she was confused just days before vanishing, what was she like that night? It could be really concerning,” Burleson expressed.
Just before her disappearance, Elena had a distressing conversation with a friend—telling Sondra Campbell on May 31 that she felt “scared for her life.”
When Campbell pressed her for details, Elena replied, “I can’t talk right now, there are too many people around,” but insisted they needed to have a private discussion.
Campbell reminisced how they usually shared everything, yet on June 4, they missed a call from another friend and did not receive a response despite several attempts to reach out.
Officials from the Lexington police noted that Elena was last seen wearing clothes that matched the description given, though they have not disclosed a cause of death.
The Lexington County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Elena’s identity on June 19 and conducted an autopsy the next day. However, a deputy coroner who answered the phone on Monday stated it was unclear when the results would be available.
