Trump Criticizes Vandals Responsible for Lincoln Memorial Pool Damage

President Donald Trump has pointed to vandalism as the cause of the $14 million in repairs needed for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He referenced videos circulating online that show peeling paint. Trump also took aim at ABC reporter Jonathan Karl, who had announced an arrest connected to the incident. D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated her commitment to prosecuting all instances of vandalism, regardless of severity, to maintain the allure and safety of Washington, D.C.

In related remarks, Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz slammed Trump regarding the pool’s maintenance, prompting backlash on social media. Critics highlighted the serious fraud scandal in Minnesota during Walz’s leadership. In a Friday post, he wrote, “They discovered a hypothetical problem, claimed to be the only solution, ignored experts, defrauded millions, and boasted about their success.” That post gained over 3.5 million views.

Walz’s comments came amid discussions about the Trump administration’s attempts to clean the reflecting pool, which had recently been criticized for issues like peeling paint and algae growth, despite a complete restoration effort costing $14.8 million.

While some supporters backed Walz’s post, many conservatives rebuked him, arguing that his failure to address the significant fraud in Minnesota detracts from his criticism of Trump’s administration. Comments from figures like journalist Mark Hemingway and Fox Business correspondent Charles Gasparino indicated skepticism about Walz’s integrity.

One post mentioned, “Is TIM WALZ really casting accusations of enabling grifting?” Moreover, a significant commentary pointed out that Walz’s own record complicates his ability to critique others.

As the political back-and-forth continued, including responses about military service claims by Walz, a theme emerged: former associates and critics delving into the essence of leadership credibility amid ongoing debates about governance and accountability.

In the meantime, Trump reiterated the urgency regarding the Reflecting Pool, describing issues of vandalism and the severity of potential legal repercussions, stating, “Destruction of such things carries a 10-year prison sentence, which will be fully enforced.”
