Trump Criticizes Schumer After Key Democratic Primary
President Donald Trump took aim at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday, following a noteworthy victory in New York’s Democratic primary by a far-left candidate supported by Mayor Zoran Mamdani (D).
In October, Trump commented to Breitbart News from the Oval Office that Mamdani had become the leader of the Democrats, effectively sidelining Schumer. On Wednesday, Breitbart News sought Trump’s thoughts on this assessment, particularly after the Democratic Socialists, backed by the mayor, achieved significant success while the Democratic establishment, including Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), faced a setback.
“Mr. Schumer has lost his way. He has essentially become a Palestinian. I think this is the greatest shift in political position that I have ever seen,” Trump stated, adding that Schumer, once a strong supporter of Israel, had now seemingly aligned with Palestinian interests.
“In fact, I asked them to send me a beautiful silk costume based on Palestinian tradition as a birthday gift,” he continued. “This is the biggest shift in political ideology I’ve witnessed. Chuck Schumer was Jewish and supported Israel, but perhaps not strongly enough because… he backed Israel even while opposing it.” Trump suggested that Schumer could have fought harder against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action during the Obama administration, questioning his commitment. “But now, sad to say, Chuck Schumer is Palestinian.”
While he described Mamdani as “charming,” Trump firmly rejected the mayor’s proposed inheritance tax.
“You know, Mr. Mamdani has been here twice. He’s a very nice guy, attractive and good-looking. We’ve talked. But you can’t just force people to leave their state or city, and raise taxes on those who move to Florida. Most go to places like Palm Beach or Miami. They’re leaving but are still responsible for 90 percent of their taxes. I keep wondering how that’s going to work out,” he said. “Every day I hear about someone moving to Florida, mostly.”
“If a beloved parent passes and leaves an estate to their child, we shouldn’t impose such a high inheritance tax that the child ends up paying 50 percent,” he argued. “That’s in addition to federal taxes, right? So they’re left with nothing… You can have your liberal views, but that’s just common sense. You’re driving people out of the country, and they’re the ones paying the taxes. They’re the ones paying 90 percent of the taxes while moving away from New York and California.”
