George Conway’s campaign in the Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District reportedly spent $5.7 million but garnered only 6,177 votes.
“That’s about $850 per vote, which is significantly more than what Mike Bloomberg spent per vote in the 2020 Democratic primary,” noted Alex Pfeiffer, a Republican communications consultant, during an interview on Tuesday.
George Conway, who ran in this primary, ended up losing on Tuesday.
Once a prominent figure in the Republican Party, Conway, who famously had a public spat with his Trump-supporting ex-wife Kellyanne Conway, surprisingly came in fifth, capturing just 6.2% of the expected vote.
In response to the election results, former President Donald Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social: “Wow, Kellyanne Conway’s insane loser husband is going to be thoroughly crushed in tonight’s primary.”
Trump continued, “We will probably end up with about 5% of the vote among a not-so-strong field of young, aggressive communists. It’s no surprise his ‘husband’ left him like a stray dog. This person has no appeal whatsoever. Good luck, George!”
Conway’s defeat drew various reactions, including from author Daniel Friedman, who expressed his disappointment with the law firm where Conway had worked for many years.
“What kind of person would invest $5.7 million in George Conway?” asked another user on social media.
“If you want to demonstrate that money doesn’t guarantee election success, this certainly proves it,” quipped another commenter.
One journalist humorously inquired about any media attention Conway might have received from this costly campaign.
More comments came in, with one user joking about Conway’s performance and another reflecting on the situation with a childhood saying: “Just leave, George.’
