Blogger accused of sending inappropriate Shrek image to state senator could face 180 days in jail

Once again, left-wing activists seem to be demonstrating their disdain for conservative viewpoints.

On May 6, Ohio blogger Donald “DJ” Burns reportedly sent a modified image of a naked Shrek to state Sen. Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland) right after Cirino announced his drop from the Ohio Senate presidential race.

Along with the altered picture, Burns is alleged to have messaged: “Glad to finally make your final humiliation public, young Mussolini!”

Burns later shared a screenshot of the text on Bluesky, claiming, “Jerry Cirino saw Don in Shrek.”

On June 1st, Cirino was charged with a misdemeanor telecommunications harassment after he filed a complaint regarding the obscene messages. He was held for about 23 hours before being released, and if found guilty, he could face up to 180 days in jail along with potential fines.

During an episode of “Stu and Dave Do America,” Blaze TV hosts Stu Bruguiere and Dave Landau discussed this odd situation.

Landau highlighted that Burns’ attempts at a political career had not gone well. Before he became known for his provocative blogging, he had run as a Democrat in the 2018 election for Ohio House District 80 but suffered a significant defeat to a Republican candidate.

“He aimed for a political office but didn’t seem to grasp that his actions could be illegal,” Landau joked.

Bruguiere then read Cirino’s response to Burns’ vulgar text: “I don’t know who this is, but I’m sure you’re an idiot.”

“I appreciate that reaction,” Bruguiere chuckled.

Landau echoed Cirino’s sentiment about the foolishness of sending explicit images using one’s personal phone.

“A simple reference to 2008’s Breaking Bad shows that burner phones exist,” he laughed. “And he chose not to use one.”

“It seems he intended for everyone to know it was him,” Bruguiere added. “Almost like he wanted to gloat.”

Burns managed to pay only 10% of his $3,500 bail, which amounted to $350, to secure his release.

“I have a feeling $350 is probably more than he has earned in writing,” Landau joked.
