Esiason Suggests Caitlin Clark Explore Playing Overseas
Boomer Esiason recently expressed his thoughts on Caitlin Clark, suggesting that she might want to consider taking her talents overseas. Following a night filled with hard fouls and questionable officiating in the WNBA, Esiason, the WFAN host and former NFL quarterback, shared his perspective on the treatment Clark has been receiving.
“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would really think about playing abroad where she could get better treatment and earn a decent income,” Esiason commented on his show, “Boomer and Geo.”
When co-host Greg Gianotti prodded for clarification, Esiason indicated that funding could come from various sources, given that many WNBA players enhance their earnings by competing in other leagues during the offseason. He reflected on Clark’s off-court endorsements, stating, “I know Kaitlyn makes a ton of money from her off-court endorsements, and that’s no surprise. But there seems to be some jealousy. And honestly, she isn’t being treated with respect.”
This discussion followed a physical game where Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas delivered a blatant foul to Clark, raising further concerns about the treatment of the Fever’s rising star who was the top pick in the 2024 draft.
After the incident, the WNBA announced that Thomas would face disciplinary measures, including two major foul penalties and a one-game suspension. Fever head coach Stephanie White expressed her dissatisfaction with the officiating after the game. “It was awful. The fact that it was a no-call… I should have called it. We came in knowing what happened two nights ago, and it’s still happening? This is absolutely unacceptable,” she said.
A few days prior, Clark had criticized a technical foul issued against her, labeling it “ridiculous” amid growing frustrations with the league’s officiating. Despite her popularity, Clark was notably absent from the WNBA’s 30th-anniversary poster, which featured several current stars like Angel Reese and Aja Wilson.
