Shocking incident of a Carlsbad bouncer using a taser on a man's face at close range

A bouncer was filmed discharging a Taser directly into a man’s face in a disturbing incident outside a venue in Carlsbad.

The footage captures the guard aiming the stun gun and firing just inches from the victim’s face, which leads to the man collapsing and writhing in pain.

The victim was later seen crawling on the sidewalk, prompting bystanders to rush to his aid.

The video shifts to show the bouncer being escorted away in handcuffs by a police officer.

The bouncer, named David Marquez, has been processed into the Vista County Jail on two felony charges: assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a stun gun, as reported.

The victim was taken to a trauma center for treatment, but the severity of his injuries remains unclear. Taser shots to the head can lead to potential brain-related complications.

This incident took place outside Park 101 on Carlsbad Boulevard on Wednesday shortly before 8:30 p.m.

According to the Carlsbad Police Department, “The investigation found that a stun gun was reportedly used during the confrontation. The adult male was assessed by the Carlsbad Fire Department and moved to a nearby hospital.”

Police were alerted to the location around 8:26 p.m. for a conflict involving security and a patron.

David Marquez, 42, from San Marcos, was arrested on charges related to assault.

“This situation is still being investigated. We are reviewing all evidence available and have no further updates at this moment,” authorities stated.

Park 101 officials confirmed that the involved bouncers will no longer be employed there.

In comments to local media, the venue’s co-owners expressed their distress over the video, stating it does not represent Park 101 or their standards. They emphasized that guest safety is paramount.

They also mentioned, “The individuals involved are no longer connected with our establishment, and we are ending our partnership with that security vendor. We are fully cooperating with the Carlsbad Police Department and conducting our own review of the security protocols in place.”
