Child identified following unfortunate drowning at apartment complex in Fresno

A family is mourning the tragic loss of a 7-year-old boy who drowned at a pool in a Fresno apartment complex.

Ackamas Gill was at the Summer Park Apartments’ pool with around a dozen other children when emergency services responded to a report of drowning at the Butler and Winery apartments, according to officials.

When police and firefighters arrived, they found that Gill had already been pulled from the pool. They started CPR immediately, and the boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.

In a heartfelt social media post, Gill’s father, James Gill, expressed his anguish over the loss. “I lost my son,” he wrote. “Life seems unreal. If you are not next of kin, please leave your prayers and support here.”

Friends and loved ones have since reached out, offering their condolences and support in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy.

One notable post shared by James Gill depicted his son celebrating a school promotion with family, a bittersweet reminder of happier times.

A person who claimed to be at the scene described their efforts to perform CPR on the boy until medical help arrived.

Authorities noted that there were more than 20 children and adults at the pool, but no lifeguards on duty. It had just reopened the previous week, despite the scorching temperatures.

Details surrounding how long the child was submerged remain unclear.
