Warning from Bill Maher Over Democratic Primary Victories
After a notable success for leftist candidates in recent primaries, a well-known liberal TV personality shared a stark warning for the Democratic Party regarding the upcoming midterm elections. Comedian Bill Maher expressed concerns that the party is “on track” for a significant setback this November, especially after Democrats chose three candidates he described as “absolutely insane” socialists in the New York state primary over traditional party members.
During last Tuesday’s primaries, Daria Lisa Avila Chevalier, New York State Representative Claire Valdez, and former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander emerged victorious in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives from New York City.
Maher’s Predictions Following the Primaries
In the wake of this electoral success for socialists, Maher, attending an event in Washington, D.C., was prompted to address his previous comments about the upcoming midterm elections, suggesting a gloomy outlook for Democrats. He remarked, “I mentioned this a couple of months ago, and, well, things can shift dramatically in a short period, as we’ve seen just two months later after the Supreme Court’s decision,” referencing a ruling that found congressional district maps in Louisiana had been racially gerrymandered.
But Maher, who has positioned himself as a voice for more moderate Democrats, let it slip that the party’s recent choice of candidates is perhaps alarming. He remarked, “In the past two months, we saw the Democratic Party nominate three far-left Democratic Socialists in New York. It’s… just really crazy. How are they going to approach this situation? It’s unclear, but they do seem to be heading in a direction that’s not great.”
Democratic Divisions Highlighted by Primary Results
These comments resonate with many within the Democratic Party, who are increasingly worried about the influence of far-left figures. Avila Chevalier, for instance, is known for her strong anti-border stance and calls for dismantling both police and prisons. Her past statements on social media have raised eyebrows, including derogatory remarks about the U.S., which she later deleted.
Echoing similar sentiments, Valdez has publicly labeled ICE a “fascist agency,” accusing it of harming communities and renouncing its role. Lander’s past affiliations with the Democratic Socialists of America ended following a controversial event related to a terror attack in Israel, though he still shares extreme views on policing and societal issues.
Further Concerns from Democratic Leaders
James Carville, a veteran Democratic strategist, voiced his opinion that candidates like Avila Chevalier shouldn’t represent the party, noting profound disagreements over fundamental issues, including attitudes toward interracial dating and criminal justice policy.
Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania echoed concerns about the leftward drift, expressing frustration at the lack of accountability for members of his party who seem hostile toward traditional American values, stating, “Why am I the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate who refuses to excuse it?”
