Hollywood and Gun Safety: A Viral Incident
Hollywood has often showcased a rather alarming portrayal of gun use, and a recent video circulating on social media underscores that point.
In a short, 41-second clip shared by the Gun Lovers Club, a person holds a semi-automatic pistol in one hand and a revolver in the other—almost reminiscent of action-packed scenes from 90s films like “Broken Arrow” and “Face/Off,” or even “Tomb Raider” with Angelina Jolie. The individual fired a few shots before being interrupted by a range officer.
“No, no, no, no, no,” the range official admonished as the shooter attempted to record the moment. “Put that down.”
The response was a simple “Okay,” followed by the officer’s remark: “You’re not a cowboy, believe me.”
One onlooker humorously noted that the situation felt like a scene in Grand Theft Auto, as the range officer appeared unexpectedly to intervene.
The officer justified his intervention, citing safety concerns at the range. “Don’t let me tell you it’s over,” he added, as the shooter shifted to a more conventional grip for firing.
It’s not that handling dual pistols is impossible, but shooting in indoor ranges filled with others poses risks, especially if the recoil takes you off guard—bullets can stray.
Interestingly, the cast of “MythBusters” once demonstrated how to safely fire two guns at separate targets. They posted a video in 2012, which was later shared again in 2013 by Vickers Tactical, though the latter sought to dissuade such practices.
Both demonstrations took place in outdoor settings, where the risk of ricochet is significantly minimized. With expert handling and reliable backstops, they were able to shoot safely.
Reflecting on those clips, one might conclude that sticking to just one gun is probably the smarter choice.
