Crumbly Cafe & Bakery Owners Celebrate the American Dream

Mia and Andrei Miladinovic, the proud owners of Crumbly Cafe & Bakery, are embracing America’s 250th anniversary with an array of festive and patriotic treats. They see Independence Day as their most significant holiday, symbolizing the American dream they pursued as immigrants who successfully established their small business. Their creations, like a cake decorated to resemble the American flag, are a testament to their journey.

As we approach July 4th, I can’t help but think about how Americans really know how to throw a celebration. From Halloween to Christmas and all the important sports events, we have a knack for decorating and embracing themes with food, attire, and festivities. With the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence on the horizon in 2026, I was expecting a wave of enthusiasm and patriotism to wash over the country.

Now, with Independence Day less than a week away, I still find myself looking for that festive 250th spirit.

There was a time I imagined red, white, and blue T-shirts and sweatshirts emblazoned with phrases like “America 250” or “Founded 1776.” I thought we might see products ranging from condiments to candies sporting celebratory branding, all highlighting this monumental occasion. But it seems like the response has been a bit lackluster.

Where are the extravagant decorations, the balloons commemorating the 250th anniversary, and those quirky trinkets? What about the festive events? It feels like a letdown to not see more banners shouting “America’s 250th Anniversary” in vibrant colors throughout the year, not just on July 4th.

Interestingly, it seems we’ve experienced more patriotic displays from international visitors during events like the FIFA World Cup than from local industries. Typically, American companies jump at the chance to celebrate milestones, so it’s disappointing that they seem to have missed the mark with this one.

For many, the founding of America transcends political discussion. It’s about individuals and the rights we cherish as citizens. The upcoming anniversary is, at its core, a celebration of our freedom and the resilience displayed to overcome challenges. It highlights what we’ve achieved together.

Regardless of differing opinions on our government at any time, this nation belongs to us. We should proudly honor that fact, ideally with ample themed merchandise alongside our celebrations. While the first half of the year has been slow for this particular mainstream excitement, there’s still hope that as we approach July 4th, a surge of patriotic spirit will emerge. America, celebrated properly, deserves nothing less.
