Former Florida Teacher Charged with Sexual Misconduct
A former special education teacher from Florida has been accused of engaging in sexual activity with an underage male, according to local authorities.
Brevard County court documents indicate that Michelle Lynn Hancock, 41, faces multiple charges including transmitting harmful information to a minor, enticing a child via computer, and engaging in lewd acts. The specifics of the allegations reveal a troubling pattern of behavior.
According to a court affidavit referenced by WESH-TV, the teenager reportedly interacted with Hancock multiple times on the Heritage High School campus, where they allegedly kissed inside the classroom.
Currently, Hancock is detained with a bail set at $525,000. As reported, she was a special education teacher at Heritage High School in Brevard County and resided in Palm Bay.
In a statement to Florida Today, Brevard Public Schools confirmed that Hancock is no longer employed by the district. “These allegations deeply trouble us,” said Janet Murnahan, a spokeswoman for the district, emphasizing their commitment to a safe learning environment.
The school district is collaborating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation, noting that Hancock’s employment contract was not renewed prior to her arrest.
The inquiry into Hancock began around 1:30 a.m. on June 23, when the Palm Bay Police received reports about a red pickup truck parked unusually. Officers discovered Hancock with a 17-year-old boy inside the truck; both parties admitted to having had sex.
The teenager claimed the sexual encounters numbered between 10 and 20 times, while Hancock stated it was only “three or four times.” The boy attended Heritage High School, although it appears he was not a student of Hancock directly, as she taught his brother.
According to the affidavit, Hancock was assisting the boy with his schoolwork and had maintained communication with him via text messages, which resumed approximately a month ago. The boy also reported that Hancock had sent him sexually suggestive photos.
In summarizing the situation, the police report indicates some inconsistencies, as Hancock denied the specific accusations of kissing inside the classroom. As of now, the investigation remains active, with the area school system pledging to assist authorities.
