Sinister Secrets in Philadelphia Home Linked to Disappearances
PHILADELPHIA — Disturbing signs were lurking, hidden in plain sight.
Residents near an unsettling Philadelphia house, tied to the vanishings of at least two women, describe the current owner as a “psychopath.” Eugene Horsch has transformed what used to be a charming townhouse into a rundown property, complete with boarded-up windows, barred doors, and a barrage of surveillance cameras.
The legacy of Eugene’s father, RC Horsch, was even darker. A well-known photographer, he passed away last year, but his work reportedly delved into predatory pornography.
Neighbor Jana Smith, aged 50, recounted unsettling experiences with Eugene, a convicted drug felon. She mentioned spotting him lurking in a back shed, saying, “I don’t know what he’s doing.” Her husband even clashed with a 44-year-old man living in the house, after Horsch attempted to angle a surveillance camera toward a bathroom window.
“He gives off a ‘psycho’ vibe,” Smith added.
In the ongoing investigation regarding the disappearances, Eugene insists that authorities should also scrutinize his father, who was in his early 80s when he passed away. A law enforcement source revealed this information to the Post.
Rumors swirl that the mystery surrounding the disappearances of RC’s younger ex-wife, Amy McHale, alongside another woman, may revolve around disturbing photo shoots featuring “nude women in a sadomasochistic environment.”
The authorities became aware of Eugene on June 19, when a U.S. park ranger overheard his girlfriend say, “You’re going to hurt me,” while he sat in a car near Independence Hall.
Police discovered he had a counterfeit Drug Enforcement Administration badge, a switchblade, and two firearms with their serial numbers removed. Furthermore, his girlfriend was found with a fake ID bearing the name of one of the missing women, a 38-year-old who vanished in Kensington in 2023, allegedly given to her by Eugene.
A search of Horsch’s residence revealed chemicals, drugs, firearms, human ashes, and a handwritten note mentioning notorious serial killer Ted Bundy and Philadelphia Police Deputy Chief Frank Vanois.
Investigators are currently examining a 55-gallon drum and other suspicious materials from the home, while also searching local sewer systems for potential DNA evidence linked to the missing women.
Notably, the house was the last known residence of Amy McHale, who disappeared without a trace in 2016. Details regarding the other missing woman, including her possible connections to either man, remain undisclosed.
Eugene has denied involvement in the disappearances, claiming, “This is a lot of fuss over nothing. … They’re barking up the wrong tree,” as stated by his attorney, Jerome Brown.
According to information on his father’s website, RC was described as a photographer, indie filmmaker, porn actor, and “a fugitive, sociopath, ex-con, and outright villain,” proudly reciting his own criminal history, which included art forgery and pot cultivation.
Amy McHale first crossed paths with RC in the 1990s. They married and divorced, but it seems they maintained a complicated relationship. Amy’s daughter, Amanda Stouffer, mentioned that they stayed close, possibly due to RC’s influence. “I’m sure drugs and alcohol were involved,” Stouffer suggested, explaining they likely provided an escape for her mother.
Despite Eugene’s claims of innocence, he has a history of trouble with the law, including ten arrests related to drug possession, trafficking, assault, and DUI, highlighting a troubling family legacy.
Moreover, authorities found multiple counterfeit IDs and a bogus law enforcement badge in his home.
