Choosing the Right Holster: A Cautionary Tale
When discussing the right to bear arms, attention often goes directly to the firearms themselves. However, how you carry your weapon—the “bear” aspect—can be just as critical. It’s common for people to opt for a budget-friendly holster, but it’s worth taking a moment to think about your choice.
A recent video shared on X by Gun Lovers Club illustrates the importance of considering how you carry your pistols or revolvers, with one rather unfortunate draw being the focus.
In the footage, a person practices drawing from an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster in what appears to be his bedroom. At first, everything seems fine. He lifts his shirt to reveal his semi-automatic pistol, but then things take a turn for the worse.
He tried to look tactical, but everything that could go wrong did. 😂

The front sight of his gun gets caught on his waistband or the drawstring of his shorts, leading the firearm to dangle precariously in front of him. To say this is a bad situation is an understatement.
The gun hangs there for about six seconds before he attempts to regain control. Unfortunately, during this process, the muzzle points directly at his stomach—a circumstance that would certainly alarm any range officer.
Eventually, he manages to secure his firearm, but this incident could have ended quite differently. Adjusting the position of the holster could have helped, or perhaps a different holster would have been smarter altogether.
Carrying personal protection has been a consideration for many years; the American Rifleman points out that even David had his stones in a pouch when facing Goliath. Modern holsters started making their appearance in the 1840s, and since then, the options have grown extensively. This variety is useful; after all, most of us don’t wear the same clothes every day. Our outfits vary depending on whether we’re headed to the beach or an upscale dinner.
Thankfully, there are numerous holster choices available now. So, what’s the takeaway after watching this video? It’s essential to think carefully not just about the arms you choose to carry, but also about how you plan to carry them.
